Laura Clarke

A portrait should tell a story of the subject that goes beyond "happy face." Laura a rising senior at Goochland County High School is featured in the above images. One of her varied interests outside of school includes her horse, Tuck. Laura's striking blue eyes and pleasant nature made these images both beautiful and memorable for she and her parents. Of course, Tuck was a great prop and I know a great friend to Laura.

Just "Horsing Around"

While scouting a location for an upcoming session I noticed these horses basking in the late afternoon sun. Somehow I don't think they are concerned about all the talk about the economy. Maybe I'll take their lead and catch some rays this weekend with the forecast of sunny and 85.

Logan Newton

Logan Newton is our featured Senior this week. "Class of 2009." Logan has spent much of her high school years frustrating strikers from opposing teams on the soccer field. A senior at James River High School, she is a collage caliber goal keeper who is sure to be on a the field next year at Roanoke Collage. Although Logan is a fierce competitor, she also wears a warm smile; especially when she is with her two dogs. Congratulations Logan, we wish you well as you prepare for collage!

Beyond the Grin

I often find the most compelling portraits capture a person in a genuine expression or gesture. In this portrait, our little subject was given her "comfort toy" at the end of the session. The moments that immediately followed truly captured her in a natural pose that Mom will love as a reminder as her daughter at 2 years old. It will be interesting to see what her blanket will look like in ten years. What ever it's condition, I'm sure it will be loved and never forgotten.

Mecklenburg Co. Library Director

Leigh Lambert has had quite a ride this past year! Preparing to celebrate her first year of marriage, she has been named Mecklenburg County Library Director. Leigh will work out of her office in Boydton, Va (the county seat) and travel throughout Mecklenburg to oversee the various libraries in the county. Congratulations Leigh.

This photograph was made with natural window light and various reflectors to create edge definition around Leigh's arms and shoulders. Relevant magazine publications and Leigh's sweater (books embellish the design of the sweater) work to pull the image together. Leigh will use this image for upcoming articles and also announce her new position to the public.

We've photographed Leigh on several occasions this past year and she is always fun!

Austin Hamlin

Austin is a rising Senior at Freeman High in Richmond. The first thing you notice about this natural born athlete is her smile and flowing auburn hair. Faced with a rainy morning, we enjoyed the wonderful control of our light in the studio. We'll head outdoors on her next visit to complete her Senior Collection. We're looking forward to it!

A Tribute to "Bailey"

Our daughter Katie took in a little stray kitten a couple of years ago and named her "Bailey". This little furry feline became a special friend to all of us. In short, she knew how to be a cat... Always affectionate, Bailey was often asleep on the back of the sofa, or in Katie's room getting special attention. She would even sleep in my lap as I worked on the computer. We often laughed at her personality and ability to "push around" our dog Gabby... Tragically, our little friend was hit by a car (no fault on the driver) on Saturday and we all miss her greatly. Katie asked that I make a picture for her that was taken just before Christmas this year. I know she will appreciate this visual memory of her "special friend" Our family was greatly enriched by the short life of Bailey and know she was "one of a kind". We miss you little friend...
