Siblings
A family is a unique chemistry of personalities. For this reason, we often find it beneficial to create a unique portrait for each child. This allows us the freedom to bring out expressions that are, (unique) to each subject. The images featured above, represent three individual portraits of three siblings. (the boys are twins) As Mom and Dad witness their children change and grow into young adults, these images will remain "forever young."
A special thank you to Lisa at The Mill at Fine Creek where these portraits were created.

Barns of Southside Virginia
From the time Virginia was first settled, tobacco has been a part of its history. In Southside Virginia, the remnants of this era of agriculture are aging and even disappearing from the landscape. Until the mid-1980's the largest cash crop of Virginia was a major contributor to the economy. As a very young child, I remember my Grandmother pointing out fields of corn and tobacco while driving up Hwy. 47 in Mecklenburg County. (where these images were made) Now the barns and other outbuildings used in its production are worn and weathered.
You may see a few farms still growing tobacco, but not nearly as many as in the past. The land around this area is now used for different purposes, cattle, soy beans, grapes, or not at all. The changing landscape is certainly different, even picturesque.

Daniel Family
Image copyright: Robert Harris Photography
Watching families grow in our presence is compensation beyond currency. Wanda and I are privileged to become a part of so many families in capturing memories of these fleeting moments. The Daniel family was photographed to include their newest addition, Eli. Of course the family is not complete without including little Nathan (2 years old) who is taking after his father; a personal trainer and owner of a successful gym. A selection of these images, captured with a series of five lights to natural window light, will become a growing visual record of this wonderful young family.

2008 "Leigh and Erik's wedding
1978 "Leigh's 4 year old birthday party
In a previous post, I mentioned while still in high school, one of my first subjects was a four year old girl, Leigh. Her parents hosted a birthday party at their home for their only child, and I was invited to photograph the event with my new camera I had purchased (Nikkormat Ft3). Sylvia, Leigh's mothers was kind enough to bring me the prints from 30+ years ago to share with you.
It was nice to see that many of the kids attending this party also were present for Leigh's wedding last spring. I've enjoyed reviewing these images as much as Sylvia has enjoyed sharing them.
Be sure to check out the " I Do" article in the Richmond Times Dispatch this Sunday (March 22nd) Leigh and Erik's wedding will be featured in the Celebrations section.

Just Having Fun!
Security: Mom and blanket (never mind being upside down). We photographed Jennifer's wedding and recently, her third child (all boys) As a segment of photographing this session, we just "played" once we had captured the formal portraits. This image truly displays the essence of her little guy; fun loving and secure in mom's arms. (Of course the blanket helps too.)
This image also hangs in "Bath and Biscuit" in Brandermill and owned by Jennifer's mom, Sherri.

Three Going On Thirty
A Portrait is a unique and enduring visual study that brings out the personality of an individual, whether they are 3, 30, or even 90. Noah (three years old) has two older sisters (I have two sisters too, buddy) and projects a confidence of a much older child. In this portrait, Noah's inner spark of confidence has surfaced at the moment the photograph was made. Combining this with exquisite lighting (outdoors with natural light) a beautiful portrait will now bring joy to Mom and family for years to come. This image received Blue Ribbon recognition in the VPPA print judging in Norfolk. Thanks Noah!

Winter on the James
A visual feast descended upon us with eight inches of snow over the Richmond area. To end the day, I followed a snow plow (thank you) to the river to witness the last light over the James River. As the sky turned pastel in color, the ducks and geese passed overhead, almost as a courtesy for a great photograph. The setting was indeed peaceful with the exception of the ducks flying in the distance.

Kimberly and Peter
Kimberly and Peter were married on a beautiful Valentine's Day at Berry Hill Estate near South Boston, VA. With close friends and family witnessing, Kimberly and Peter said their vows to each other and to their son, Jackson. The weather could'nt have been nicer, nor the venue more perfect.
Congratulations Kimberly and Peter!
